3-vehicle crash leaves pedestrian dead in Arkansas, police say

A three-vehicle accident Thursday morning in Independence County left a pedestrian dead, according to Arkansas State Police.

In a preliminary report, authorities said the crash occurred around 7:05 a.m. when two stationary, eastbound vehicles were struck by a 1999 Chevrolet pickup also traveling east on Arkansas 106 at Wilson Circle.

Both stationary vehicles — a 2016 Jeep Cherokee driven by 50-year-old Debera R. Sanders of Batesville and a 2008 Chevrolet pickup driven by 37-year-old Brian Lindsey of Batesville — had stopped on the highway because of a previous accident, according to state police.

The crash caused the 2008 Chevrolet pickup to then fatally strike Jimmy D. Sanders, 52, of Batesville, authorities said.

A minor was also injured in the accident, the report states. It was not immediately clear which vehicle the child was traveling in.

The driver of the 1999 Chevrolet pickup was not named.

Travel conditions at the time of the crash were described as clear and dry.

Sanders’ death was the 338th reported so far this year on an Arkansas road, according to preliminary state police data.
