Composer concerts
The husband-and-wife duo of violinist Margaret Jones and composer Phillip Schroeder will perform three concerts of Schroeder's works over the next week:
• 7:30 p.m. Friday, Harwood Recital Hall, Henderson State University, 1100 Henderson St., Arkadelphia (hsu.edu)
• 3 p.m. Sunday, Recital Hall, Snow Fine Arts Center, University of Central Arkansas, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway (uca.edu)
• 7:30 p.m. Sept. 1, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 310 W. 17th St., Little Rock, kicking off the cathedral's fall 2016 Concert Music Series (trinitylittlerock.org). A reception will follow in the cathedral's Morrison Hall.
The program for all three concerts will consist of Time to Trust for violin, piano and digital delays; Distant Shadows and Lightness Is the Root of Gravity for violin, piano, fixed electronics and delays; Nocturne for violin and piano; Avian Fields for solo violin; and Passage Through a Dream for five-string electric violin, four-hand piano and delays.
In addition, the Henderson State University Chamber Chorale and the Hot Springs Music Festival Chorus will premiere Schroeder's Giving Thanks at a concert titled "Time to Trust, A 9/11 Tribute to Honor Our First Responders," 3 p.m. Sept. 11 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 228 Spring St., Hot Springs (stlukeshs.org).
SATURDAY
Minstrel banjo
Clarke Buehling will play minstrel banjo Saturday at Ozark Folk Center State Park, 1032 Park Ave., Mountain View, 2 p.m. in the Craft Village ($12, includes Craft Village admission) and 7 p.m. in the Music Auditorium ($12). Vaudeville-style show
