BENTONVILLE -- Rogers police received information that a suspect wanted to sell a stolen police rifle for $500, according to documents filed Tuesday.

Sergio Fuentes, 20, of Rogers was being held Wednesday in the Benton County Jail on a $30,000 bond.

Rogers police detectives began to question Fuentes about an AR-15 stolen from an unmarked police car because of his suspected involvement in other thefts from vehicles in Rogers, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The rifle, three loaded magazines, a ballistic vest, handcuffs, a flashlight and shoulder bag were stolen Aug. 16 from the unmarked car parked at a Rogers police detective's residence, according to court documents.

Detectives went to Fuentes' home on Old Wire Road to ask him about the items stolen, according to the probable cause affidavit. Fuentes denied having any knowledge of the crime, the affidavit states.

Police arrested Fuentes on Aug. 17 for hindering apprehension and prosecution and theft by receiving in connection with other vehicle break-ins, according to the affidavit.

Fuentes was released from jail two days later after he posted a $10,000 bond.

A jail inmate later told detectives Fuentes admitted to him that he took the rifle from the unmarked car, the probable cause affidavit states.

Police received a tip on Aug. 20 that Fuentes intended to sell the AR-15 for $500, according to the affidavit.

Police were able to monitor the transaction when Fuentes arrived at the location to sell the weapon, according to the probable cause affidavit.

A man gave Fuentes $500 and a woman put the rifle in the back of the man's vehicle, the affidavit states.

Police later stopped the man and recovered the rifle and three magazines, the affidavit states.

Fuentes later was arrested in connection with breaking or entering, theft of property and criminal use of a prohibited weapon.

Fuentes' arraignment is scheduled for 8 a.m. Sept. 26 in Benton County Circuit Judge Brad Karren's court.
