A 28-year-old Cabot man is accused of dropping prescription medications from his vehicle after authorities stopped him while investigating a hit-and-run at a Benton Wal-Mart.

William Guy Jones faces charges including multiple counts of possession of a controlled substance and leaving the scene of a property-damage accident.

Officers were called shortly before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday after a vehicle drove off from a collision at Wal-Mart, according to a Benton Police Department news release.

Police say Jones' vehicle matched the description of the one involved in the hit-and-run, and officers pulled it over as it merged onto Interstate 30.

As the vehicle was stopping, the driver's door opened, and a plastic bag was dropped, police said. Investigators retrieved the bag and found several prescription medicines, including oxycodone and hydrocodone, the release said.

Jones denied being involved in the accident at Wal-Mart and said damage on his vehicle was not recent, according to the release.

Jones was booked into the Saline County jail and was released Wednesday afternoon after posting a $75,000 bond.
