Cardinals score late, top Naturals

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Allen Staton hit a run-scoring single in the eighth inning, leading the Springfield Cardinals to a 2-1 win over the Northwest Arkansas Naturals on Friday.

Luke Voit scored on the play after he reached base on a walk.

In the top of the second, NW Arkansas grabbed the lead on a sacrifice fly by Humberto Arteaga that scored Frank Schwindel. Springfield answered in the third inning when Alex Mejia hit an RBI double, driving in Blake Drake.

Robby Rowland (1-0) got the win with two innings of scoreless relief while Reid Redman (0-2) took the loss in the Texas League game. Josh Lucas retired the side in order for his 16th save of the season.

DRILLERS 2, TRAVELERS 1

Lars Anderson doubled twice, and Seth Frankoff allowed just four hits over six innings as the Tulsa Drillers defeated the Arkansas Travelers 2-1 on Friday.

Joe Broussard struck Jose Briceno out with a runner on first to end the game for his seventh save of the season.

Frankoff (3-3) picked up the win after he struck out eight and walked one while allowing one run.

Arkansas started the scoring in the second inning. After leading off the inning with a single, Jabari Henry advanced to third on a groundout and then scored on a wild pitch.

Tulsa answered in the bottom of the frame when Anderson hit an RBI double, scoring Kyle Farmer.

The Drillers took the lead for good in the fourth when Edwin Rios hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Dan Johnson.

Alex Klonowski (0-2) went five innings, allowing two runs and four hits in the Texas League game. He also struck out three and walked two.
