AUBURN

Facing misdemeanors

AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn defensive back Stephen Roberts has been charged with attempting to elude an officer and possessing a firearm without a license.

Auburn Police Capt. Lorenza Dorsey said Friday that Roberts, 20, was a passenger in a vehicle during a traffic stop and attempted to flee from the officer. The arrest report shows Roberts was arrested at 9:53 p.m. Wednesday and the firearm was a handgun. The fleeing and possession charges are misdemeanors.

Auburn spokesman Kirk Sampson said Coach Gus Malzahn "is gathering all of the facts and will handle the situation appropriately."

Roberts has been competing for the starting job at free safety. He started the final four games last season and made 26 tackles.

Malzahn has said four players arrested on misdemeanor drug charges in May won't miss playing time.

FLORIDA STATE

QB Maguire returns

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Two weeks after breaking a bone in his right foot, Sean Maguire returned to preseason practices for No. 4 Florida State.

The senior quarterback did team and individual drills during Friday's session. When Maguire was hurt Aug. 11, coach Jimbo Fisher said he expected Maguire to miss 3-4 weeks.

Maguire, who had a screw placed in his foot on Aug. 15, started five games of the final six games last season as he completed 59.3 percent of his passes with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Redshirt freshman Deondre Francois is still expected to start the Sept. 5 opener in Orlando against 11th-ranked Mississippi, but if Maguire is available for that game it could ease Fisher's mind. Currently backing up Francois are sophomore J.J. Cosentino and freshman walk-on Jake Rizzo. Freshman Malik Henry remains indefinitely suspended for what Fisher called a violation of team rules.

Henry, who enrolled early and took part in spring practices, was seen with the team during Friday's kickoff luncheon but has not practiced since last week.

INDIANA STATE

Removed from roster

A former Kansas football player accused of sexually assaulting two former KU women's rowers was removed from the Indiana State football team Thursday after university administration there learned more information about him.

Daisy Tackett and Sarah McClure claim in separate lawsuits filed against the University of Kansas that they were each sexually assaulted at different times by the same KU football player, referred to in court documents as John Doe G.

Jordan Goldenberg Jr. is John Doe G, according to a person with knowledge of one of the sexual assault allegations. Attorneys for the Goldenberg family told The Kansas City Star that Jordan Goldenberg Jr. "strongly denies" the allegations of sexual assault contained in the lawsuits.

Goldenberg appeared in KU's first seven games of the 2015 season as a long snapper but did not play in the final five games, after both women reported claims that they were sexually assaulted by Goldenberg to KU officials.

Goldenberg left KU in March. He appeared on the Indiana State football roster on the team's website as late as 11 a.m. Thursday.

The Star on Thursday requested an interview with Goldenberg through Indiana State's football media relations director and received an email response that night from Indiana State director of communications Libby Roerig, who wrote that Goldenberg was no longer on the football team.

Goldenberg was still listed in the Indiana State online student directory as of Friday afternoon.
