Man with toy guns sparks lockdown

A Northwest Arkansas town put its schools on lockdown Friday for what turned out to be a man carrying toys for his children, police said.

A woman driving past West Fork School District buildings off Phillips Street on Friday notified police of a man carrying a grocery bag containing what she believed to be weapons, the West Fork Police Department said in a statement.

Officers went to the area and discovered the man did have guns in the bag as he walked home -- Big Buck Hunter toy guns he had just bought as gifts for his children.

Schools in West Fork, which is about 11 miles south of Fayetteville in Washington County, were placed on a precautionary lockdown before officers found the man, police said.
