Jerry Hood

Where I live: In Roland, just west of Little Rock toward Pinnacle Mountain in a Tuscany-style home built about 1996 on 36 acres.

Occupation: Owner of Jerry's Barber Shop in Little Rock's Heights for nearly 50 years. I work with two other barbers, Mike and Keith, a shoeshine man named Big Jim, my wife, Marie, daughter Kim and grandson Codey.

My favorite space is: The den of my home, where I enjoy relaxing in a big La-Z-Boy reclining chair. It is there where I often sit to watch TV or read and study.

Why? It is here where I often read my Bible and meditate. I am also working on writing a book, I Love to Tell the Stories, a collection of stories about how the Lord touched me at a very young age and I was later led to a prison ministry, Love in Action. During that work, I traveled the state visiting prisons once a week for about 35 years. I am also on the board of the Little Rock Compassion Center, a homeless shelter that serves 700 meals a day. Through those experiences, I've seen hundreds of lives changed by the word of God.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: Remove the wall that separates the den from the living room and open up the areas to convert the two smaller rooms into one larger living space.
