COWBOYS

Coach rebukes Elliott

Dallas Cowboys Coach Jason Garrett echoed owner Jerry Jones in rebuking rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott's visit to a legal marijuana shop before Thursday's 27-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Marijuana is legal in the state of Washington. But it is still banned by the NFL.

Garrett expressed his disappointment to Elliott, who has apologized for his poor decision.

"I don't think it was a good decision," Garrett said. "He and I talked about that. It was a just a poor decision on his part. Young players have to understand that perception can be reality. And you have to understand that you are under a microscope 24 hours a day. And there is no good reason to go into a place like that. He understood. He apologized. He recognized his mistake. It's something he will learn from."

Garrett said he didn't believe that Elliott's visit to Herban Legends, which was first reported by TMZ, will prompt a drug a drug test by the NFL.

"It's my understanding it does not," Garrett said.

The Cowboys already have three players suspended by the NFL for violating the substance policy -- defensive ends DeMarcus Lawrence (four games) and Randy Gregory (10 games) and linebacker Rolando McClain (10 games).

Gregory is in drug rehab. McClain did not report to training camp and is not expected to play at all in 2016.

CHIEFS

CB Acker joins team

CHICAGO -- The Kansas City Chiefs have acquired cornerback Kenneth Acker from the San Francisco 49ers for an undisclosed draft pick.

A sixth-round selection by the 49ers in 2014, Acker missed his rookie season because of a foot injury. But he played in 15 games last season and had three interceptions.

The Niners made several other roster moves after the deal was announced on Saturday. The team released receivers Jerome Simpson and DiAndre Campbell; running back Kendall Gaskins; defensive lineman Darren Lake; kicker John Lunsford; linebacker Wynton McManis; offensive linemen Blake Muir and Ian Silberman; and cornerback Cleveland Wallace.

The team also placed receiver Eric Rogers on injured reserve.

FALCONS

Goldson gets a look

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Falcons have given a workout to veteran free-agent safety Dashon Goldson, the former Redskins starter.

The Falcons will be without rookie safety Keanu Neal, the projected starter, for at least the first two regular-season games with a right knee injury.

Coach Dan Quinn said Saturday that backup Kemal Ishmael would fill in for Neal as the starting strong safety even if the team signs Goldson, 31. General Manager Thomas Dimitroff said Goldson also has interest from other teams.

The Falcons cut nine players, including backup quarterback Sean Renfree, to reach the roster limit of 75 players on Saturday.

The Falcons also released safety Sergio Brown and waived offensive lineman Michael Huey, running back Gus Johnson, wide receiver Jordan Leslie, tight end Arthur Lynch, linebacker Ivan McLennan, cornerback Ryan White, and defensive lineman Brandon Williams.

Renfree, a seventh-round pick in 2014, played in two games last season. Veteran Matt Schaub was signed in the offseason as Matt Ryan's backup.
