Crew sealing road to shut down lane

Work on U.S. 65 in Van Buren County will require a series of alternating lane closures Tuesday, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

A crew sealing U.S. 65 near the border of Searcy and Van Buren counties will require traffic to be reduced to one lane within the work zone from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using warning signs and flaggers, the department said.

The crew will be applying a bituminous surface treatment, which the agency calls a proven method of sealing cracks that provides a durable wearing surface while using local materials at an economical cost.

Although loose material is swept from the roadway after the treatment is placed, it often takes four to eight days from the time the material is placed until the pea gravel is fully bonded to the roadway. Therefore reduced speeds are recommended for two weeks after the work, the department said.
