Maybe after three months . . .

The best comment in the Sports section last week--maybe in the whole paper--came in Bryan Hendricks' Thursday column. Our bureau chief in the duck blind wrote about the former outdoors editor of the Baton Rouge Advocate, and how he was helping out in the cleanup efforts after the recent flood. The former editor's wife told our correspondent/columnist that Mr. Retired Editor was out making spaghetti dinners for flood victims and workers.

Why?

"You find out pretty quick," she explained, "that people get real tired of eating jambalaya every night, so they're trying to mix it up a little."

Mix it up a little? We thought that was the whole point of jambalaya! One night shrimp and sausage. The next night chicken and sausage. The next night seafood (and sausage). The next sausage and sausage and sausage.

Oh, well. It's Louisiana. Some of those folks might even get bored with etouffee . . . .
