Americana singer Lauderdale plans South on Main set

​Singer-songwriter Jim Lauderdale will perform at 8 p.m. today at South on Main. Admission is $34, $32 or $25.

​Lauderdale, a North Carolina native, is the son of a Presbyterian minister and choir director who exposed him to bluegrass and country music at an early age. He was inspired to learn drums, and then the harmonica and banjo. He released a debut album in 1991 and has since released nearly 30 CDs.

​The latest, Buddy and Jim, is a collaboration with his old friend, Buddy Miller, with whom he shares DJ duties on a Sirius XM satellite radio program. Lauderdale has written songs recorded by George Strait, Elvis Costello, Blake Shelton, the Dixie Chicks, Patty Loveless, Solomon Burke and Shelby Lynne. He has had songs featured on the ABC series Nashville and on the soundtrack of the movie Pure Country.

​Lauderdale has recorded or performed with Ralph Stanley, Donna the Buffalo, Larry Campbell, Ollabelle and Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter.

​A "Songwriters' Round" event at 9 p.m. Friday will feature Chris Milam, Jim Mize and Mark Edgar Stuart. Admission is $10.

​Jimmy "Daddy" Davis returns for a performance at 9 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $10.

​Davis is a Memphis native known for his singing and guitar playing as the leader of the groups Junction and The Riverbluff Clan. His songs that have been recorded by Reba Russell, Martina McBride, Johnny Rivers and Restless Heart. He has worked with Little Rock native Jim Dickinson, The North Mississippi Allstars, Keith Sykes and Jonny Lang.

​He relocated to Austin, Texas, in 2012 after joining a Texas Hill Country group, Walt Wilkins and the Mystiqueros.

​Rhythm and blues singer Joe will perform, along with opening act Eric Benet, at 8 p.m. today at Robinson Center Performance Hall in Little Rock. Tickets are $59.50 and $49.50.

​Joe, born Joseph Lewis Thomas in 1973, began his recording career with the album Everything in 1994. He has since released 11 more studio albums (the latest of which, My Name Is Joe Thomas, came out Nov. 11), two compilations and two Christmas CDs.

​Opening act Eric Benet, a rhythm and blues and soul singer, released a debut album, True to Myself, in 1996, and has since recorded seven more CDs, the latest of which, Eric Benet, came out Oct. 7. Benet married actress Halle Berry in 2001, but they separated two years later, divorcing in 2005. In 2011, he married Manuela Testolini, the ex-wife of Prince. The couple have two daughters.

​Lost Forty Brewing is holding Holiday Hangout: The B Side, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. It will feature an acoustic show by Isaac Alexander, Ben Kyle (of Romantica), Roger Hoover and Aaron Lee Tasjan.

​The Hangouts are an annual music festival hosted by local record label Last Chance Records, which first organized them in 2012.

Love and Theft will perform at 8 p.m. today at the Rev Room. Admission is $20.

​Love and Theft, founded in 2006 as a trio, opened for Taylor Swift on her 2008 tour but became a duo in 2011: Stephen Barker Liles and Eric Gunderson. They scored a No. 1 country hit that year with "Angel Eyes," and have reached the charts with "Runnin' Out of Air" and "If You Ever Get Lonely."

​Three albums have been released: World Wide Open in 2009; Love and Theft in 2012; and Whiskey on My Breath in 2015.

​Crowbar and Goatwhore, plus opening act Lillake, will perform at 8 p.m. Friday. Admission is $20.

​Crowbar and Goatwhore are two of the best known metal bands in New Orleans. Lillake was formed by Nico Santora, who left his former band, Suicidal Tendencies.

​The Schwag will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $10. The Schwag is a noted Grateful Dead tribute band.

​Singer-songwriter Robert Tepper, along with Chris Cameron and others, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Wildwood Park for the Arts in Little Rock. Admission is $20.

​Tepper is best known for two of his songs that were used in Sylvester Stallone movies: "No Easy Way Out" in Rocky IV and "Angel of the City" in Cobra. He has released four albums, the latest of which, New Life Story, in 2012, is more acoustic than his previous albums.
