Popular succulents come in huge array

About 60 different succulent plant families exist, and within each one are several different varieties. While their looks differ and specific care instructions may vary slightly by plant, most need little water and thrive in bright sunlight. Here are some of the most popular succulent varieties:

There are many varieties and colors of echeveria. The leaves can be different shapes, but they usually grow in a rosette pattern and stay compact.

Hens and Chicks

Hens and chicks grow in tight rosette patterns and often produce smaller babies.

Kalanchoe

Kalanchoes are succulent flowering plants. Mother of thousands is a common type of kalanchoe, known for its fringed leaves.

Haworthia

Haworthia often has spiky leaves that resemble aloe plants, with colors ranging from bright green to brown.

Jade Plants

Sometimes referred to as money plants or dollar plants, jade plants are thought to bring good luck. They have waxy, rounded leaves and grow more vertically that other succulents.

Gasteraloe

Gasteraloe plants are sometimes called lizard tails because of their triangular, pointed leaves that are usually dark green and covered in white tubercles.

Aloe

Aloe is known for its medicinal qualities and thick, fleshy leaves. The gooey insides of the plant can be used to treat skin wounds such as cuts and burns.
