2016 version of '50s quartet in concert at Arkansas State

The Four Freshmen, the modern version of a quartet that had its biggest hits in the 1950s, perform at 2 p.m. today at Arkansas State University's Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive, Jonesboro, part of the university's 2016-2017 Riceland Distinguished Performance Series. UALR concerts

Felice Farrell will be the soloist in Franz Joseph Haydn's Cello Concerto in C major with the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Community Orchestra and conductor Victor Ellsworth in a concert titled "A Taste of Old Vienna," 3 p.m. today in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall, Fine Arts Building, UALR, 2801 S. University Ave., Little Rock. The program will also include Franz Schubert's Symphony No. 5.

The UALR Jazz Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, also in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. The program will include a mix of seasonal tunes and director Michael Underwood's arrangement of "Wherever You Go" by Pat Metheny, with an alto saxophone solo by Edwin Lawson.

Conway chorus

The Conway Men's Chorus will perform Christmas and seasonal selections with an audience sing-along, 7 p.m. Tuesday at Reynolds Performance Hall, University of Central Arkansas, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway. Fort Smith Nutcracker

Stephanie Murrish and her husband, Daniil Gaifullin, 11 years the principal couple with the Sarasota Ballet of Florida, will dance the roles of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Cavalier, respectively, in Western Arkansas Ballet's production of P.I. Tchaikovsky's ballet The Nutcracker, 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at the ArcBest Corp. Performing Arts Center, 55 S. Seventh St., Fort Smith.

Trent Montgomery, a recent graduate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and a member of the Arkansas Festival Ballet resident company, will dance the role of the Nutcracker Prince. Spa City Stardust

Awakening auditions

The Studio Theatre, 320 W. Seventh St., Little Rock, will hold auditions, by appointment, for the musical Spring Awakening (music by Duncan Sheik, lyrics and book by Steven Sater), the evenings of Dec. 18-19, with possible callbacks Dec. 20. Auditioners should prepare 32 bars of a song in the style of the show and familiarize themselves with the show's mature content. Production dates are in June. 'Silver Theater'

El Dorado-area stage veterans and senior citizens interested in working on or backstage can now join the South Arkansas Arts Center's new "Silver Theater" program. The group has started work on a one-act dessert theater production and is considering shows for area festivals and story times at elementary schools, and a retrospective featuring snippets from past center productions. Little Theatre season

Fort Smith Little Theatre, 401 N. Sixth St., Fort Smith, will open its 2017 season with Sense and Sensibility, Kate Hamill's adaptation of Jane Austen's novel, Feb. 9-18.
