GREAT SCOTT!

Highway commissioner gets dinner, salutes at his sendoff

Bank executive Frank Scott Jr. was just 29 when he was appointed to the Arkansas Highway Commission in October 2013. In the three-plus years since, he has put his communications skills and financial intellect to work for the good of the commission.

He also created a huge fan base along the way.

Scott's last commission meeting was Wednesday, but the night before, friends and colleagues gathered in the private dining room at Copper Grill for a dinner of filet mignon and stuffed chicken breast, along with some gentle ribbing and presentation of some memorable gifts. Fellow commissioners Tom Schueck, Robert Moore Jr., Alec Farmer of Jonesboro and chairman Dick Trammel of Rogers footed the bill for the dinner and the gifts. Schueck was unable to attend.

Trammel remarked that Scott's young age had lowered the median age of commission members by at least 10 years. Highway department director Scott E. Bennett added, "Frank was always concerned about doing the right thing. He wasn't concerned about doing the things his friends wanted him to do." Farmer said, "He's kept an open mind and continued to communicate with those holding opposing views, even when older, more seasoned persons couldn't or wouldn't do the same."

Scott was accompanied at the dinner by his parents, Brenda and Frank D. Scott Sr. Those in attendance agreed that Scott would continue to be successful regardless of whatever he chooses to do in his career.

Gifts included a large replica of the commission's seal, a composite of the commission members with whom Scott served, a replica of the bridge plate for the Broadway Bridge project and a carry-on case deemed "the Rolls Royce of luggage."
