U.S. 65 wreck kills boy

A Pine Bluff boy was killed and four other people were injured in an accident Saturday morning in Jefferson County, according to a preliminary report from Arkansas State Police.

A 2006 Dodge Durango driven by Phillip Cummins, 28, of Pine Bluff was traveling on U.S. 65 at the Cottondale Road overpass when it left the roadway and struck a guardrail around 6:20 a.m., according to the report. A passenger was thrown from the Durango and struck by a 2015 Nissan Altima, the report said.

Phillip Cummins; Matina Cummins, 30; and two children -- a boy and a girl -- riding in the Durango were injured in the accident, the report said. Another boy riding in the Durango was killed, state police said, but it was unclear whether he was the person thrown out of the vehicle.

Arkansas law prohibits police from identifying minors in crash reports.

The injured, all from Pine Bluff, were taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center, according to the report.

Rain was falling and roads were wet at the time of the accident, according to state police.
