UALR women rally late at Memphis

MEMPHIS — UALR outscored Memphis 9-2 late in the fourth quarter to secure a 54-44 victory at Elma Roane Fieldhouse Sunday.

Kyra Collins’ basket with 3:59 to play put UALR up 43-35, but Memphis closed to 45-42 with 1:41 left.

A layup by Loysha Morris, a three-pointer by Taylor Williams and two free throws by Williams sandwiched a jumper by Kyra Collier in that run.

UALR pulled away thanks to a layup by Monique Townson with 1:31 left that made it 47-42. Townson made a free throw to make it 48-42, then Kaitlyn Pratt added a layup to make it 50-42 with 37 seconds left after a missed layup by Williams.

Townson made two free throws with 16 seconds left to make it 52-42 before Breigha Wilder-Cochan scored the Tigers’ last two points on a layup with eight seconds left.

Sharde Collins made two free throws with six seconds left to seal the game. Pratt led the Trojans (5-4) with 21 points and seven rebounds. Collier added 11 points and seven rebounds. UALR shot 39.6 percent from the floor (19 of 48), but made 14 of 15 free throws and outrebounded Memphis 37-23. The Trojans held Memphis to 36.5 percent field-goal shooting (19 of 52), including 2 of 11 three pointers.

Williams led Memphis (3-5) with 14 points and five rebounds. Cochran-Wilder added 10 points.
