Deputies investigate Johnson County shooting

Three people were being held by the Johnson County Sheriff's Office Tuesday in an investigation in which occupants of a car shot at deputies.

A news release from the Sheriff's Office said deputies were attempting to make a traffic stop in the Knoxville area of eastern Johnson County on Monday night when the occupants of the car shot at deputies as they fled.

The release didn't say whether anyone was injured or if there was an exchange of gunfire between the car's occupants and deputies.

Deputies lost sight of the vehicle but later found it abandoned. The three people were arrested following a search of the area where the car was found, according to the release.

The Sheriff's Office attempted to stop the car after receiving information Monday night Russellville police were following a vehicle on Interstate 40 possibly involved in a call the Sheriff's Office received mid-afternoon Monday of a possible hostage situation in the Knoxville area.

Deputies responding to the call at the time didn't find anything connected to a hostage situation, according to the release.
