Selma Methodist Church is on the itinerary for the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program’s Saturday “Walks Through History” tour.

Heiskell lecture

Julia Reed, contributing editor to Elle Decor and Garden & Gun, food columnist for the Wall Street Journal and frequent MSNBC guest, will give the Central Arkansas Library System's J. N. Heiskell Distinguished Lecture, 6:30 p.m. today at Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Ave., Little Rock. A 6 p.m. reception will precede the lecture, named for J.N. Heiskell, the longest-serving member of the Library's Board of Trustees and editor of the Arkansas Gazette for more than 70 years. Reed will sell and sign copies of her books afterward. 'Three Organists'

The Three Organists -- Adam Savacool, organist at Little Rock's Second Presbyterian Church; Bill McCandless, former chairman of the music department at University of Central Missouri, now living in Little Rock; and Stanley Cox, organist at Little Rock's Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church -- will play seasonal works and a carol apiece for the Little Rock Musical Coterie's December program, 11 a.m. Friday at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, 4823 Woodlawn Ave., Little Rock.

Savacool will play Fantasy on Two Well-Known Christmas Carols by John E. West; Choral Prelude on Silent Night, Op. 3, by Samuel Barber; and Toccata on Antioch by Craig Phillips. His carol: "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear." McCandless will perform two of the Six Carol Settings by Wilbur Held and Variation on "Adeste Fideles" by Raynor Taylor; his carol: "O Little Town of Bethlehem." And Cox's program will be "Here Betwixt Ass and Oxen Mild" by Robert J. Powell, "Angels We Have Heard on High" by Hugo Gehrke, "People Look East" by Dale Wood and "Bring a Torch Jeanette, Isabella" by Keith Chapman, followed by his carol: "Go Tell It on the Mountain."

Death row art

The Central Arkansas Library System's Cox Creative Center, 120 River Market Ave., will hold an opening reception, 5-8 p.m. Friday, for "Art From the Row," arts, crafts and poetry created by prisoners on Arkansas' death row or who have been executed. The exhibit, a partnership with the Arkansas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, will be up through Dec. 19. Admission is free. Call (501) 918-3000.

History walk

The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program's "Walks Through History" tour will visit Selma Methodist Church and Selma Rosenwald School in Drew County, starting at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, Arkansas 293 and Ables Creek Road, Selma. The school is on Selma-Collins Road, approximately a quarter mile south of U.S. 278. The church was built about 1874, originally for a Baptist congregation. The school was built in 1924, one of many paid for by philanthropist Julius Rosenwald. Co-sponsor is the Drew County Historical Society. Admission is free.
