Man in Sherwood charged with rape

A Sherwood man is accused of raping a woman while her three children played with toys in a nearby room Thursday, police said.

In a report, Sherwood police said the woman arrived at 43-year-old Jason Hoyle's house on Hollmore Lane in the evening so her children could play with the toys he had. She said she met Hoyle earlier in the day at a bus stop; that's when he mentioned the toys.

As the children played in the living room, Hoyle asked her if she wanted to see the parts of the house he was remodeling, police said. While in Hoyle's bedroom, she heard one of her children start to cry.

She told police that Hoyle wouldn't let her leave the room to go check on her child. Hoyle pushed her onto the bed and held her down as he sexually assaulted her, the report said.

After the assault, the woman grabbed her kids and went back to her house, police said. The report said she was "visibly upset" and crying when police arrived around 9:40 p.m. Thursday. Emergency personnel later took her to a hospital.

Police arrested Hoyle at his home. He was charged with rape, first-degree false imprisonment and three counts of second-degree child endangerment. He was booked into the Pulaski County jail at 3:05 a.m. Friday, where he is being held without bail.

Neighbors' tussle leads to stabbing

An altercation between two neighbors in North Little Rock on Thursday led to one of the men getting stabbed eight times by the other, authorities said.

Police arrived at an apartment building in the 2200 block of East Broadway around 10 p.m. and found 24-year-old Corey Lawson sitting outside in a white T-shirt covered in blood, North Little Rock officer Jon Schwulst wrote in a report.

Lawson told police he was in the smoking area of the building when another man who lives in the building approached him and asked for a cigarette. When Lawson refused, the man took out a weapon and stabbed him multiple times, the victim said.

Lawson had cuts on his left arm, right shoulder, right middle finger, rib cage, lower abdomen and in the middle of his back, police said. He was taken to UAMS Medical Center for treatment, and paramedics counted eight puncture wounds, Schwulst wrote.

Later, police learned the two men had been in an argument earlier that day and had to be physically separated by other tenants, the report said.

Twice in 11 days, store in LR robbed

Thursday marked the second time in 11 days that a Little Rock grocery store was robbed, police said.

According to a police report, a gunman entered the Asian Mart at 3002 S. University Ave. around 5:20 p.m. and pointed a black handgun at an employee, demanding money. The employee gave him an undisclosed amount of cash, and the gunman left the store, heading south on University Avenue on foot, police said.

The employee described the robber as a 5-foot-3 black man who's 20 to 30 years old. He was wearing a black mask and a black coat.

A different employee was working the afternoon of Nov. 27 when a gunman entered the market and demanded money, Arkansas Online previously reported. He pointed a silver revolver at her as she gave him money from the cash register, police said.

A 19-year-old man says an unknown assailant robbed him, then hit him in the face with a tool in Little Rock on Thursday night, according to a police report.

Police went to the 4100 block of West Seventh Street at 10:15 p.m., where they found a North Little Rock resident with an injury to the left side of his face, officer Nicholas Smith wrote in the report.

The teen told police that he and his 16-year-old friend went to the location to try to sell a tablet when a stranger approached them and said, "Give me all your stuff."

The assailant took a set of Beats by Dre headphones, a pair of jeans and a gray iPhone from the victims, then hit the 19-year-old in the face with an unknown tool, the victim told authorities. The 19-year-old was treated by medical personnel.

Owed money cited in LR attack, theft

A robber demanded that a man hand over money that he said was owed before beating the man and stealing his phone while inside his Little Rock home, police say.

Authorities were called to the robbery at 6:24 p.m. Thursday in the 700 block of Kimball Street on the city's east side. At the scene, responding officers noted that the victim was holding an ice pack on the right side of his face.

The man told police that the robber, described as a black male, showed up with the victim's cousin and told the resident to give him money.

When the victim said he did not owe him money, the robber began hitting the man in the face, police said. After a "few blows," the victim fell to the floor and the robber began hitting him again, the report noted. The robber later grabbed the victim's phone and fled the scene in an unknown direction with the cousin, according to authorities.
