Christmas parade moved to today

North Little Rock's Sertoma Christmas Parade, postponed from last Sunday, is set for 3 p.m. today, barring inclement weather.

Forecast rain and cold caused the parade to be moved from last week.

The parade is to begin at Pershing Boulevard and Main Street, then go south on Main Street into downtown, ending at the North Little Rock City Services Building, 120 Main St.

The Northern Lights Festival, which had been set to begin at 4:30 p.m. outside the City Services Building, has been canceled.

Actor will perform A Christmas Carol

Actor Bill Oberst Jr. will perform a one-man, two-act performance of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol at 7 p.m. Thursday at the William F. Laman Public Library, 2801 Orange St., North Little Rock.

The one-night performance is free and open to the public.

Oberst's show is a "slightly abridged" 50-minute telling of the 1843 novella. Dickens himself toured the world with a spoken version that lasted more than two hours, according to a library news release. Oberst also will speak in Dickens' original text, including "phrases odd to Internet-era ears," according to the news release.

Oberst of Los Angeles is a veteran actor of stage, film and television, including a guest-starring appearance as a serial killer in the long-running CBS television series Criminal Minds.

Aldermen approve delay for meeting

The North Little Rock City Council's regular meeting scheduled for Dec. 26 will be held on Dec. 27 instead because city offices will be closed Dec. 26 as part of the Christmas holiday.

City aldermen recently approved the meeting change.

The City Council regularly meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 6 p.m. in council chambers on the second floor of North Little Rock City Hall, 300 Main St.
