Daniel Lee Clark, 21, of 3602 Lupine Drive in Rogers was arrested Wednesday in connection with first-degree battery and tampering with physical evidence, both felonies.

Clark's girlfriend, Serena Rose Murdock, also was arrested in connection with the attack.

Murdock, 21, faces charges of tampering with physical evidence and accomplice to commit first-degree battery.

Murdock told police the victim, Michael Dearment, is her mother's boyfriend and threatened to burn her mother's house, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Murdock said she and Clark went to 17929 Lakeview Road in Rogers about 9 p.m. Tuesday to get their Christmas presents when they asked to check if Dearment was at the home, according to the affidavit.

Murdock told police she was carrying a screwdriver and Clark was carrying a hammer, the affidavit said.

Clark told police he hit Dearment on the head with a hammer when Dearment moved toward them in the backyard, according to the affidavit.

After the confrontation, Clark said Murdock called her mother and told her to call 911. Clark and Murdock then returned to their home on Lupine Drive. The couple told police they later discarded the hammer at an abandoned lot in Rogers.

Dearment, 47, initially was airlifted to Washington Regional Hospital Medical Center in Fayetteville for head trauma. Due to the severity of his injuries, Dearment later was flown to a trauma center in St. Louis, Mo., according to the affidavit.

An update on Dearment's condition wasn't available Saturday.

Clark was being held Saturday at the Benton County Jail on a partial bond of $100,000. Murdock was released from the jail after posting a $20,000 bond.

The pair are due to appear in Benton County Circuit Court for arraignment hearings at 8 a.m. on Jan. 17, according to the release.
