Members of the Arkansas State Medical Board gathered at the Country Club of Little Rock the night of Dec. 1 to share some merriment and honor a few of their own who have left the board or will soon be doing so. Among them was Peggy Cryer, who retired Aug. 31 after 25 years as executive secretary to the board.

The board is a state agency responsible for licensing and regulating physicians and other allied health professionals in Arkansas. Board chairman Dr. Joseph M. Beck II gave a plaque to Cryer, then gave plaques to Dr. Jim C. Citty and Scott Pace, both of whom left the board since last year's holiday party. Pace was board treasurer.

Beck, whose term as chairman is up at the end of this month, was then handed a plaque for his service.

"He was a pioneer when the AIDS epidemic first hit and took care of patients that other doctors were afraid to be alone with," board vice chairman Dr. Steven L. Cathey said when presenting Beck with his plaque.

The doctors and their guests and spouses snacked on a tray of grilled vegetables, grilled chicken skewers, spinach and artichoke dip, a fruit display and domestic cheeses with crackers.
