KICK, WIGGLE AND REWARD

Hospital volunteers saluted with lunch, entertainment

The CHI St. Vincent Auxiliary honored its hardest-working volunteers with a luncheon Dec. 9 at the Country Club of Little Rock. In between awards and accolades, the group enjoyed a tasty turkey dinner and entertainment by the Little Rock Rockettes, a group of prime-time dancers (ages 63-82) with moves comparable to women half their age.

Award winners were Larry Schiratti with the Joan B. Wilson Hospitality Award, presented by Wilson's husband, Larry Wilson; Alyce Parker with the Herbert and Ida Besser Award, presented by auxiliary historian Maureen Johnson; Marty Schaufele with the Wendy Saer Award, presented by Saer; and Kimberly Marchant with the Thelma Marsh Award, presented by Hazel Wilson, the auxiliary's legislative chairman.

The auxiliary presented the hospital with a check for $700,000, which represents the man-hours the group contributed to the hospital this year.

It was all about the numbers.

Esther Ray had a collective 11,000 hours. Given a 40-hour work week at 52 weeks a year, Ray's hours translate into more than five years of volunteering for CHI St. Vincent. Anita Brewer and Larry Jegley logged 10,000 hours each; Schaufele had 8,000 hours; Gerry Goffart had 7,000 hours; Evelyn K. Mobley had 5,000 hours; and Madelyn Ray and Garth Martin had 4,000 hours each. Many more volunteers logged in hundreds and thousands of hours for the hospital.

The Rockettes performed six numbers -- with six costume changes. More than 100 volunteers and a dozen or so hospital and auxiliary administrators attended.
