Bikes, Blues & BBQ volunteers, backers, bikers and beneficiaries gathered for the annual charity awards celebration Dec. 6 at George's Majestic Lounge in Fayetteville.

"The world's largest charity-driven motorcycle rally," held in Fayetteville in the fall, made it possible for the group to distribute more than $230,000 to some 40 area nonprofit organizations.

Benefiting groups fit within four focus areas -- youth programs, public education, community outreach or cultural enrichment. Since the rally started in 2000, organizers have donated more than $1.5 million to local charities.

Nonprofit organizations contribute to the rally, and thus their donation, by volunteering at the rally and ancillary events or organizing their own events.

Groups getting a boost from the bike rally in 2016 include Cooperative Emergency Outreach, the Children's Safety Center, Ozark Literacy Council, Life Styles Inc., Open Avenues, Northwest Arkansas Center for Sexual Assault, Childcare Aware, Habitat for Humanity Washington County, Fayetteville Youth Wrestling, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Northwest Arkansas, the M & N Augustine Foundation, Pagnozzi Charities, Peace at Home, Northwest Arkansas Women's Shelter, Yvonne Richardson Center and the Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Northwest Arkansas.

The 2017 Bikes, Blues & BBQ is set for Sept. 20-23.

Among those gathering with rally organizers were Tommy Sisemore, Neal Crawford, Jeff Koenig, Billy Waite, Steve Clark, Nancy Hairston, Barb Putman, Steve Stewart, Ken Mourton, Sarah Van Vleck, Elizabeth Shackelford, John Newman and Caroline Franco.

Razorback Foundation backers and endowed scholarship recipients had a chance to meet and visit with each other at the foundation's annual luncheon Dec. 9 at Carnall Hall on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville.

Next up for the foundation is the Red Tie Dinner on Jan. 28.

Athletes and boosters gathering at the luncheon included Marilyn Bogle, Becky Alexander, Leah Hufford, Terry Hufford, Terry Prentice, Scott Varady, Dale Schultz, Aiden Lister, Maria Fassi, Shauna Estes-Taylor, Jim Hatfield, Carly Hoke and Mario Rincon.
