Ricardo Santana Jr., shooting for his fourth consecutive riding title at Oaklawn, won three races to take over the lead in the standings. Santrana rode Carsons’ Suspect ($12.00) to a 1 ½ -length victory over Gone Preachin in the fourth race, a $68,000, 6-furlong race for maiden special weights. He won the fifth race, a 6-furlong maiden claimer for 3-year-olds, riding How About Him ($5.20) to a 2 ¾ -length victory over Robinwood. He won the feature race when he rode Thoughtless ($9.60) to a 1 ½ -length victory over Harbour Island, a 6-furlong optional-claiming allowance with a $70,000 purse. Santana has won 10 of 67 starts and shares the lead in the jockey standings with Jon Court, who is 7 of 39. Corey Nakatani (6 for 35) won twice — riding Como Se Llama ($6.60) to a 2 ½ -length victory over Ventures Galore in the second race, a 6-furlong for older horses running for a $10,000 claiming price. He won the sixth race riding Speightstatic ($6) to a 2 ¾ -length victory over Talk Show in a $68,000 maiden special weight for 3-year-olds and up at 6 furlongs.

Owners continue to be in a buying mood at Oaklawn.

The track had a meet-high 16 claims for $211,250 on Saturday and 12 more claims for $200,000 on Sunday, including seven of the nine horses in the second race, a $10,000-$12,5000 claimer. There have been 102 claims for $1,488,250 through first 11 days of racing … Trainer Tom Howard of Hot Springs said Sunday morning that King Cotton Stakes winner Ivan Fallunovalot will be pointed for the $100,000 Hot Springs Stakes March 5 at Oaklawn. Howard said Saturday’s race unfolded perfectly for Ivan Fallunovalot, with Hall of Fame jockey Calvin Borel keeping the gelding just behind front-runners Lewys Vaporizer and Alsvid through a half-mile in :45.03. “Calvin used his head and saved our life,” Howard said. Ivan Fallunovalot ran 6 furlongs over a fast track in a meet-best 1:09.21. … Several horses pointing for upcoming Oaklawn stakes worked on a mostly cloudy, windy Sunday morning. Cutacorner breezed 5 furlongs in 1:01 after the break for Hall of Fame trainer Jack Van Berg. Cutacorner, a Jan. 21 first-level allowance/optional claiming winner at Oaklawn, is pointing for the $500,000 Southwest Stakes for 3-yearolds Feb. 15. … Durango worked a halfmile in :47.60 for trainer Randy Morse in preparation for Saturday’s $100,000 Martha Washington Stakes for 3-yearold fillies.
