Arkansas-Pine Bluff to retire jerseys of 2 basketball stars

PINE BLUFF — The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will retire the basketball jerseys of former players Harold Blevins and Jesse Mason.

Blevins played from 1961-65. He was a three-time NAIA All-American who was drafted by the New York Knicks and signed a free agent contract with the NFL's Dallas Cowboys but instead was drafted into the Army and served in Vietnam.

He later coached UAPB and is a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Hall of Fame.

Mason played from 1956-60 and was a three-time All-SWAC selection and is a SWAC Hall of Famer.

He's an Air Force veteran and is director of cooperative education at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, a member of the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport/Adams Field Commission and is a former Little Rock vice mayor.

The ceremony will be March 5.
