Arkansas Index dips 0.49; 11 issues fall

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, fell 0.49 to 290.91 Wednesday.

Eleven stocks declined and seven advanced.

ArcBest, which missed fourth-quarter earnings estimates Tuesday, slumped 16.1 percent on three times its average volume.

USA Truck lost 6 percent on double its typical volume.

Murphy Oil jumped 10.5 percent in heavy trading and Murphy USA shares rose 1.9 percent.

Dillard's gained 1.8 percent in light trading.

Acxiom, which reports quarterly earnings today after market close, rose 1.7 percent.

Total volume for the index was 29.7 million shares.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
