NW Arkansas posts jobless rate of 3.2%

Northwest Arkansas' unemployment rate was 3.2 percent in December, the lowest among the state's metropolitan areas, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said Wednesday.

Northwest Arkansas' unemployment rate in December 2014 was 4 percent.

The Jonesboro and Little Rock metro areas recorded unemployment rates of 4 percent in December, down from 5.1 percent and 4.9 percent a year earlier, respectively.

Other December unemployment rates compared with December 2014 were: Texarkana, 4.6 percent, down from 5.3 percent; Hot Springs, 4.9 percent, down from 6 percent; Fort Smith, 5.1 percent, down from 5.5 percent; and Pine Bluff, 6.7 percent, down from 7.4 percent.

The state's unemployment rate in December was 4.8 percent, and the national rate was 5 percent.
