City in Texas to get Windstream Kinetic

Windstream Holdings Inc. said Thursday that the company will launch its Kinetic television service in Sugar Land, Texas, later this year.

Windstream, headquartered in Little Rock, said the television service will be available to more than 30,000 homes in the Sugar Land area in the second quarter of 2016.

Kinetic provides customers with a variety of features, including HD channels, free DVR and wireless set top boxes, the news release said.

Sugar Land will be the third market that Windstream's television service will be launched in. The company also offers in it Lincoln, Neb., and Lexington, Ky.

Clothing drive set to aid ASU students

Arkansas State University's College of Business is holding a clothing drive to assist poor students in dressing for job interviews.

Donations will be accepted for the Career Closet beginning at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 12 in front of the business building on the Jonesboro campus. Desired items are slightly used professional business clothing and accessories.

ASU started the program in the fall of 2014. Business students have access to the closet when preparing for professional meetings, interviews and other business-related events.

The business college "Career Closet loan program is one way we help prepare students for success," H. Steve Leslie, instructor of business communication, said in a news release. "We are working to assure all our students, especially those who are not able to afford appropriate business professional clothing, have access to business attire."

Students are eligible based on upon certain criteria, including resume vetting and attendance at two ASU Career Services workshops. Additional information can be obtained from Leslie at (870) 972-3430 or through email at sleslie@astate.edu.

Arkansas Index up in mixed-bag day

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, rose 2.49 to 293.40 Thursday.

"U.S. stocks seesawed between gains and losses on Thursday, finishing slightly higher after some lackluster economic data and a weakening dollar," said John Blackwell, senior vice president and managing director of equity trading at Stephens Inc. in Little Rock.

USA Truck gained 8.5 percent in average volume.

ArcBest rose 4.8 percent on twice its typical volume.

Total volume for the index was 29.3 million shares.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
