Man killed by Lonoke County deputy identified

UPDATE:

The man killed by a Lonoke County deputy has been identified as Phillip Luchsinger, 36, of Austin, Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said in an email.

Luchsinger was shot at his home on 191 Angel Drive and was later pronounced dead at Jacksonville Medical Center.

His body has been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for examination and to determine a manner and cause of death, Sadler said.

EARLIER:

A Lonoke County deputy shot and killed a man while responding to a domestic disturbance just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday in Austin, authorities at the sheriff's office said.

The deputy has been placed on administrative leave with pay while the investigation is ongoing.

Deputies responded to 191 Angel Drive and were talking to the female victim when they were confronted by an armed man, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. A deputy fired his gun at the man, who was taken to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The names of the deceased and the deputies involved had not been released as of 10 a.m. Sunday.

Sheriff John Staley requested the investigation be turned over to the Arkansas State Police.
