Sugar Bears start fast, win ninth consecutive

CENTRAL ARKANSAS 67, NEW ORLEANS 55

Central Arkansas (19-2, 9-1 Southland) won its ninth consecutive game with a victory over New Orleans (6-14, 3-8) in the Farris Center in Conway.

UCA jumped out to an 18-11 lead after the first quarter and led 37-21 after a Jameka Watkins free throw with five seconds left in the second.

The Sugar Bears shot 52.2 percent from the field in the first half and made 4-of-7 (57.1 percent) on three-pointers.

UCA took its largest lead of the game at 57-36 on Raquel Logan's layup with 6:36 left in the fourth quarter before UNO cut into the deficit against the Sugar Bears' reserves.

The Sugar Bears shot 8-of-23 (34.8 percent) in the second half but were 13-of 17 (76.5 percent) from the free-throw line.

The Sugar Bears had four players score 11 or more points, led by Maggie Proffitt's 18 which came mainly from 4-of-8 three-point shooting. Taylor Baudoin had 14 points and Brianna Mullins hit 9-of-11 free throws on her way to 13 points, all coming in the second half.

UCA had a 23-16 advantage in points off turnovers, but UNO outscored the Sugar Bears 32-16 in points in the lane.

The loss dropped UNO to 0-9 on the road this season.

SOUTHLAND MEN

CENTRAL ARKANSAS 112, NEW ORLEANS 77

Jordan Howard scored a game-high 36 points to lead Central Arkansas (4-15, 3-6 Southland) over New Orleans (8-13, 4-6) at the Farris Center in Conway.

Howard, who had 22 first-half points, led four Bears with 12 or more points. Justin Foreman and Mathieu Kamba added 17 points each, while Derreck Brooks had 12 as the Bears shot a season-high 62.1 percent from the field. UCA’s Jake Zuilhof had a game-high 11 rebounds, including five on the offensive end.

UCA led 58-33 at halftime as the Bears shot 61.1 percent, including 7-of-16 three-pointers.

Boo Milligan had 7 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists off the Bears’ bench.

Christavious Gill led the Privateers with 22 points. Erik Thomas had 13, and Michael Zeno 10 for UNO.
