The Dallas County sheriff's office was holding Paul Grice, 38, for the Arkansas Department of Correction when he escaped about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, a Dallas County dispatcher said.

On Sunday evening, multiple law enforcement agencies were searching the Monticello area where authorities believed Grice was hiding.

The dispatcher said Grice recently pleaded guilty to an offense, but she was unsure what the offense was. Court records show Grice was charged with aggravated residential burglary in September and with second-degree escape in October.

In 1998, Grice pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of James B. Rushing, 74, of Pine Bluff, according to court documents.

The dispatcher said the method of Grice's escape was still under investigation, but she said Grice was accounted for at 11:36 p.m. Saturday.

He should be considered armed and dangerous, the dispatcher said.

Grice was described as white, 5-foot-9 and 155 pounds.
