SOFTBALL

State teams fare well in Arkadelphia

Harding defeated Mississippi College 7-6 and lost 4-1 to Missouri Western on Sunday at the Ronnie Hawkins Invitational in Arkadelphia.

Harding took a 7-4 lead in the sixth against Mississippi College when Kimy Hendricks had a bases-loaded triple. After Mississippi College scored two runs in the seventh on a home run and a triple, Kelly Beth Ernest relieved Ashley Smith and recorded the final out for the victory.

Missouri Western scored two runs against the Bisons in the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead. Harding’s run came in the fifth when Alexus Lawellin reached on an error. Missouri Western added two more in the seventh.

Arkansas-Monticello defeated Missouri Western 9-6 and lost 8-1 to Northwestern (La.) State in the tournament.

Against Missouri Western, Kali Bolter had a grand slam in the fifth inning to put the Cotton Blossoms up 8-4 in the fifth.

UAM’s Alyson Finnigan retired four of the last five batters to end the game after Missouri Western closed to 8-6 in the sixth.

Ryan Martin had three-run home runs in her first two at bats and a sacrifice fly in her third plate appearance to account for seven of Northwestern’s runs against UAM.

Also in the tournament, Ouachita Baptist won 4-2 against Northeastern State and 9-0 to Mississippi College in a game that was stopped after five innings. Against Northeastern State, the Lady Tigers scored three runs in the fifth inning when Kelly Powell scored on Suzie Gresham’s single before Powell scored on Kalley Madden’s single and Sarah Johnson reached on an error that scored Madden.

Arkansas Tech, Henderson State win two

Arkansas Tech defeated Central Missouri 3-0 and Emporia State 6-0 at the Southeastern Regional Invitational in Durant, Okla., on Sunday.

Jalissa Gum pitched a no-hitter against Central Missouri, striking out 11 and walking 2 in 5 innings. Janie Knowles and Alex Edinger had three hits apiece for the Golden Suns in their 13-hit attack.

Against Emporia State, Morgan Vaughn pitched a complete-game shutout, walking two.

Henderson State defeated Emporia State 1-0 and Missouri Southern 3-1 in the tournament.

Michelle Sorenson pitched a no-hitter against Emporia State, walking three batters. Alexis Morton reached on an error and scored on a hit by Courtney Warren in the fifth inning.

Against Missouri Southern, the Reddies scored two runs in the first inning when Olivia Trapp singled to left to score Courntey Warren and Caroline Cullins. In the second, Ashleigh Erb led off with a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an error.

BASEBALL

Arkansas Tech defeats Missouri Western

Parker O’Dell hit a bases-loaded double in the fifth inning and Brandan Bohuslav and Jesse Harbin pitched the final two innings to help Arkansas Tech defeat Missouri Western 8-7 Sunday at Tech Field in Russellville.

Kaleb Warden went 3 for 4 with a walk and scored a run for the Wonder Boys. Josh Watkins went 2 for 4 with a walk and scored 2 runs. Mark Vaughn went 2 for 3 with an RBI and scored 1 run. Sarah Coronado and Gaby Vasquez both had three hits while Ashley Savage had two.

Henderson State falls in Houston

Tarleton State defeated Henderson State 1-0 in 10 innings Sunday in Houston.

Jake Hasbrock hit a single down the left-field line to score Hunter Seales, who walked with one out and moved to second on a wild pitch.

Henderson State (2-4) had five hits and left seven runners on base.

Delta State scores late, beat Harding

Delta State scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat Harding 5-4 Sunday in Cleveland, Miss.

Trailing 4-3 going into the bottom of the ninth, Will Robertson doubled to left. After Harding closer Zac Stewart replaced Joshua Spears, Jacob Swiney singled to move Robertson to third. Ethan Gill’s infield single scored Robertson to tie the game. Ben Pickard doubled to left to score Swiney with the winning run.
