Forestry workers find burned body

The Pope County Sheriff's office was investigating Monday the death of a man who was found near the site of a controlled burn north of Hector.

A news release from the sheriff's office said workers with the U.S. Forest Service found the burned body of Douglas Hall, 71, on his property Sunday. The sheriff's office received the call at 5:47 p.m.

Hall's property is on Smyrna Road, north of Hector in the Nogo community, the news release said.

The investigation was ongoing Monday, but foul play was not suspected. Hall's body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for autopsy, according to the release.

The release said the fire in which Hall was burned was on his property and was not connected with the prescribed burn by the forest service. Forest service employees saw the smoke from Hall's fire, went to investigate and found Hall's body.
