Mom's hearing reset in 2 Conway killings

A Faulkner County judge on Monday scheduled a new date for a pretrial hearing for a mother charged in connection with the shooting deaths of a Conway couple.

Michelle Staton, 37, of Conway appeared in Faulkner County Circuit Court before Judge Charles Clawson Jr., who set another pretrial hearing for Staton for Feb. 22.

Staton is charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution, a felony, in the case of four teenagers charged in the July 21 slayings of Robert and Patricia Cogdell, both 66, at their Conway home.

The youngest of the teens is Justin Staton, who was being raised by the Cogdells, his legal guardians. Justin Staton, 15, is the son of Michelle Staton.

Justin Staton and Hunter Drexler, 18, of Clinton are each charged with two counts of capital murder, aggravated robbery, abuse of a corpse and theft of property by threat.

Anastasia Roberts, 17, of Conway and Conner Atchley, 17, of Greenbrier are each charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The two also are charged with one count of felony theft by receiving in an amount of $5,000 or less but more than $1,000 and one count of felony theft by receiving a credit or debit card or account number.

All four teenagers are charged as adults.

Randal Staton, 58, also is charged with felony hindering apprehension or prosecution in connection with the case. He is Justin Staton's grandfather and is also of Conway.

All six defendants have pleaded innocent.

Michelle Staton is being held in the Faulkner County jail without bail because of prior drug and failure-to-appear charges.
