A North Little Rock police officer was injured Tuesday after being hit by a vehicle during an arrest, according to authorities.

Police responded to a report of a forgery about 10:57 a.m. at a U.S. Bank location at 3703 McCain Blvd.

Officer Donnie Steele was struck in the bank's drive-thru by the vehicle of a woman accused of forgery, 30-year-old Renee Gerken, as he attempted to make contact with her, spokesman Sgt. Brian Dedrick said in a statement.

The incident caused Steele to have a minor cut on his left hand, Dedrick said.

At that point, police attempted to stop Gerken as she fled from authorities in the vehicle, later calling off the pursuit as a result of her "very reckless" driving.

Gerken was later found by authorities inside an Arby's at 4560 McCain Blvd. in North Little Rock and taken into custody, Dedrick said.

She was booked into the Pulaski County jail on charges of second-degree forgery, aggravated assault, second-degree battery and fleeing. She remained in custody as of Tuesday evening on $45,000 bond, authorities said.
