Pet of the Week

Shakespeare, the Pet of the Week.
Shakespeare, the Pet of the Week.

Shakespeare (37729), our pet of the week, is no playwright. He's a beagle, a breed noted for loyalty and hunting abilities. He arrived at the shelter as a stray with an injured front paw. He's about 2 years old and weighs 20 pounds. Shakespeare is a quiet guy who is shy and a bit nervous, but he is ready to make friends and settle in. His tail wags, even when he's sitting on it. Shakespeare suffers from heartworm disease, but the shelter has received contributions that will cover the cost of his medications.

Canine Close-Up

Yogi (37849) is an all-black Labrador retriever who is about 5 years old and weighs 70 pounds. He is a good ole' boy in the best sense of the term. Professionals and volunteers at Little Rock Animal Village find him to be a highly friendly and enthusiastic dog, who is ready to join a family with space enough for a good run.

Bella (37834), a 25-pound mix of terrier and Catahoula leopard dog, has great big Catahoula ears atop a slender face. Her eyes relay how much she wants to make friends. She's 7-8 months old and arrived at the shelter as a stray. Bella's short-haired coat is mainly black and white with touches of beige and brown. Her markings come in random splashes, spots and patches, making her look like a movable work of abstract art.

Zoe (37494), a bit over 2 years old, is a mix of corgi and beagle sporting a brown and white short-haired coat and black facial highlights. A white mustache circles her black nose, and her front feet and chest are also white. She has the short, sturdy legs of a corgi (British Queen Elizabeth's favorite breed). Zoe presents herself as a calm, friendly sweetheart. She has heartworm disease, but the shelter has received contributions to cover the cost of her medications.

Featured Felines

Bo (37903) is elegant, no question about it. A tidy, short-haired guy, he is 100 percent white except for his intriguing eyes -- one blue, the other green. A bit over 2 years old, he is a small cat, weighing seven pounds. His owner had to put him up for adoption because of ill health, so moving to a shelter wasn't easy for him. But he is friendly, so a bit of coddling should get him past that quickly.

Pinot Noir (37716) is a seven-pound young adult a bit over a year old and black all over. "Wine is constant proof that God loves us and loves to see us happy," wrote Benjamin Franklin. Like a good wine, this feline Pinot Noir is affable and ready to make her new household happy -- no wine cellar required.

Schroder (37835) is a small, 7-pound female, named for Charlie Brown's pianist pal in the Peanuts comic strip. Schroder is a Russian blue with a short, thick coat that's 100 percent gray. She's shy -- unlike the young prodigy in the comics -- but quite genial and prepared to become friends with those in her new home.

Eartha Cat (36288), a short-haired tortoiseshell kitty about 2½ years old, was named after Eartha Kitt, an international, multilingual singer and actress who portrayed Catwoman in the 1960s TV series Batman. This kitty, however, isn't known for her singing -- or even yowling on the back fence. She'd rather snuggle.

Shakespeare and friends can be adopted through the Little Rock Animal Village. More information is available at (501) 376-3067 and littlerockanimalvillage.org.
