Wintry precipitation may fall on northern Arkansas as a storm moves across the state Sunday night, a meteorologist from the National Weather Service in Little Rock said Wednesday.

A cold front from the north will collide with a storm system from the southwest, which will provide moisture and conditions favorable for snow, meteorologist John Lewis said.

The storm is expected to drop fewer than 2 inches of snow before moving out of the state by Monday morning. Lewis said there is a slight chance for freezing rain in eastern Arkansas, but it was not expected to amount to anything significant.

Any snow or ice is expected to melt quickly as temperatures rise into the 60s early next week, he said.

The frozen precipitation would only fall north of Little Rock, Lewis said. Central and southern parts of the state are forecast to see only rain.
