***Plenty to like

****Confident choice

1 Purse $21,000, 6 furlongs, 3-yearolds and up, Arkansas-bred, maiden claiming $12,500

HUNTER HENRY*** has not raced since April, but he raced competitively against better last season at Oaklawn, and he sports good workouts for winning connections. GOINGTOGIVE’EMHALE was forwardly placed while caught wide in his return to the races, and the class dropper does not have to improve much in a weak state-bred maiden-claimer. MILITARY SAND raced evenly in a seventh-place debut, but is dropping in class and second-time starters often show marked improvement.

2 Purse $25,000, 6 furlongs, fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up, starter allowance

GREEK LIFE**** is taking a slight jump in class following a decisive three-length victory, and the sharp mare won races last season at Saratoga and Keeneland. CRISSY FIELD has the benefit of a race over the track and she is quick and capable of leading this field from gate to wire. FOXY FLEDA has been on the sidelines since summer, but recorded four consecutive second-place finishes while earning Beyer figures that are strong in this field.

INNOCENT STORM** raced close to the pace when finishing a close third in her local debut, and the beaten post-time favorite has landed in a field with little speed and is the one to beat. GERIS HAND rallied in an encouraging career debut performance against similar, and a more alert start may be the difference. OUR ADDI BELLE is a first-time starter showing a series of good breezes, and she has a win-early pedigree.

4 Purse $21,000, 6 furlongs, fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up which have never won three races, claiming $7,500

COLLEENS STORM** is moving up the class ladder following consecutive victories, and the pace is expected to be contentious enough to set up her late run. GOLFIN’ DE AN broke her maiden at Prairie Meadows following a freshening, and her last two five-furlong breezes suggests she is ready to contend. FAVORITE SHOW is dropping to the lowest price of her career, and she has earned competitive Beyer figures but has been more effective around two turns.

5 Purse $30,000, 1 mile, 3-yearolds, starter optional claiming RESIDE** chased a fast pace before fading when overmatched in his 2016 debut, but lands at a proper level and should be close to a kinder pace. MAXIMIAN earned a competitive Beyer figure in a clear two-turn maiden-claiming victory at Fair Grounds, which was his first start on the main track. PAPA SOL defeated $25,000 maiden-claimers in front-running fashion, and the Lukas trainee has improved in each of his four races.

6 Purse $32,000, 6 furlongs, 3-yearolds, maiden claiming $50,000 MESTIZO** is bred for speed on both sides of his pedigree, and he shows a string of good works, and trainer Ingrid Mason has been spotting horses where they can win. MIDNIGHT’S FANTASY dueled from start to finish in a clear second-place debut finish at 30-1 odds, and any kind of improvement will make him difficult to beat. EMMETT’S DREAM contested the pace while caught wide when hitting the wire one position behind the second selection, and he does have more experience than the top two.

RIGHT NOW RICHIE** led every stride but the last few in a tough luck defeat Jan. 24, and the four-time winner last season holds his form well and was claimed by a top claiming stable. ABBAA lost a clear lead inside the final furlong in a photo finish defeat of his own, and he too was claimed by a high percentage stable and figures near the lead from the start. SCHOOL SPIRIT was a big disappointment in his return from an extended vacation, but he has the speed and class to win if he rebounds to his best 2015 form.

RAAGHEB*** finished a competitive third in the 5th Season Stakes, and is taking a drop in class and shows two big subsequent works. BOLD CONQUEST is a multiple graded stakes-placed runner at two turns, and his poor record on a wet track makes his local debut a toss out. NASA is a restricted stakes winner who is shipping in from Parx at the top of his game, and he figures on or near the early lead.

SHADY CREEK**** is taking a significant drop in class following a fourth-place allowance finish, and his Beyer figures are fastest and the pace should flatter his late run. VALID BULL has a consistently competitive record at Oaklawn Park, and he has been especially good in statebred races. PRIVATE JONESBORO broke his maiden last winter at Oaklawn, and showed speed to better last summer at Prairie Meadows.

EXOTIC POSSIBILITIES

With the money expected to be spread, the third race is a good trifecta opportunity. With Innocent Storm being a lukewarm favorite but the controlling speed I’ll “key” her over several in the bottom two legs. The 50-cent late Pick-4 I like because the first leg may produce a long shot winner, and race seven may be a smaller field but has plenty of contention. Race 8 and 9 have large fields but fewer contenders, which lightens the amount needed to wager.
