Style: The eye that binds

Roger Deakins is the rare cinematographer whose name even casual moviegoers might know.

He’s been nominated for 13 Oscars — but so far he’s winless. That may change this year, as he’s once again nominated, this time for his work on Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario.

Our Dan Lybarger caught up with Deakins, to talk about his work with Villeneuve and the Coen Brothers and others, for this Friday’s Style section.

In other movie news, Ryan Reynolds is a former Special Forces op with a chip on his shoulder and a nasty tongue in his mouth in Deadpool; Michael Moore goes off in search of ways to make America great again in his latest comic documentary, Where to Invade Next, and Will Ferrell is back as evil mastermind Mugatu, whose villainous nature clearly hasn’t been tempered by 15 years in Fashion Prison in Zoolander 2. And if that all seems a little mainstream for your tastes, check out the bittersweet Turkish drama Mustang.

We’ve got the dope on all this and more in the Style section in Friday’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
