WASHINGTON COUNTY

The Unitarian Universalists Fellowship in Fayetteville, 901 W. Cleveland, presents Edie Love, a ministerial candidate, speaking on “Entertaining Angels” at 11 a.m. Sunday. The worship focuses on homelessness and poverty.

Love is a a student at Memphis Theological Seminary and a candidate for Unitarian Universalist ministry. She currently serves an internship at two Memphis agencies which deal with homelessness and poverty.

First Presbyterian Church in Springdale, 100 S. Gutensohn Road, sponsors the church youth in a pancake breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Sunday to support the Springdale High School snack pack program.

Lenten dinners and classes for all ages continue each Wednesday through March

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Fayetteville, 225 N. East Ave., presents Sunday Evensong at 5:30 p.m. each Sunday during Lent. The hymns and chants in English cathedral heritage are led by the St. Paul’s choir. A free soup and salad supper follow. Soup is provided; bring salad and bread, if able.

The Rev. Lowell Grisham leads Lenten teachings following Evensong and the supper. The series, “Growing a Rule of Life,” by the Society of St. John the Evangelist, focuses on God as the chief gardener of souls.

Richard Lee and the Gregorian Schola of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fayetteville lead Ancient Roots, a contemplative Eucharist, at 6 p.m. each Monday in Lent. The program, with chanting, silence and breaking bread, is a classic spiritual practice for those of all spiritual experiences. Nursery care provided.

The church hosts “Veils,” by Tom Coash, presented by ArkansasStaged and directed by Kholoud Sawaf at 8 p.m. Feb. 20. The staged reading tells the story of an African-American Muslim woman and her progressive Muslim-Egyptian room mate and their conflicting beliefs about the hijab or “veil.” Traditional Middle Eastern music and a guided discussion accompany the performance. A donation of $3 is suggested.

First United Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville, 695 Calvin St., focuses Sunday worship services during Lent on the theme, “How Jesus Makes Us Whole,” from the healing stories in the Gospel of Matthew.

Church youth meet from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday for dinner, games and stories. New directors of youth and young adult ministry, Brianne and Jacob Christiansen, will be introduced.

The Rev. Libby Lizarraga offers a one-evening Lenten retreat from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. “Stigmata” is a consideration of the marks of Christ next to our personal wounds and healing. A meal of soup and bread begins at 5:30 p.m.

Fayetteville Goddess Festival organizers accept program and workshop proposals until Monday for the event, which runs March 18-27.

The festival focuses on restoring balance in the world by encouraging exploration of the feminine divine through art, music, words, dance and shared knowledge. Events are held at the Omni Center for Peace, Justice and Ecology and the Fayetteville Senior Activity and Wellness Center.

Robinson Avenue Church of Christ in Springdale, 1506 W. Robinson Ave., offers a 13-week session of DivorceCare from 4 to 5:30 p.m. each Sunday, beginning Feb. 21. Babysitting provided.

The church offers DivorceCare for Kids, 13 weeks of Bible-based lessons, for children ages 6 to 12, from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. each Wednesday, beginning this week.

Bella Vista Lutheran Church, 1990 Forest Hills Blvd., offers Lenten services at 6 p.m. each Wednesday. Supper is served from 5 to 5:45 p.m.

The church plans Parents Night Out, for children ages 3 to 13, at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The Shepherd’s Food Pantry is stocking products for Easter meals. Organizers ask for donations of sugar-free gelatin and low-sugar canned fruit, as well as flour, sugar, oil and “clean” plastic bags.

Bella Vista Presbyterian Church, 1880 Forest Hills Blvd., offers a six-week Lenten study, Sabbath as Resistance: Saying No to the Culture of Now by Walter Brueggman, at 4 p.m. Tuesday and each Tuesday through March 22. The workbook costs $10.

A Lenten soup supper will be served at 6 p.m. each Wednesday. Cost is $4 and a can or dry package of soup for Caring and Sharing of Northwest Arkansas.

Carroll County Bible Reading Marathon committee meets at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the grounds of the Great Passion Play in Eureka Springs. This year’s marathon marks the seventh annual National Day of Prayer on April 28. The 90-hour marathon continues from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day through May 4. Volunteers are needed for the prayer team, the sponsorship team, the on site team and the reader schedule team.
