RUSH -- Probably as large a stock of zinc ore as there is in any camp in the country has accumulated in the mine bins around this place during the past 30 days. It is estimated that there is 1,000 tons valued at more than $100,000, which could not be moved on account of bad roads and flood conditions. However, the roads are in such shape now that hauling was resumed today.

• An Arkadelphia lawyer is drawing up a petition aimed at putting the question of allowing alcohol sales at restaurants in the city on the ballot for the Nov. 2 general election. "It's not on the street yet, maybe next week," Andy Morgan Berry said Friday. Berry said the citizens' group he represents believes alcohol sales at local restaurants would boost the economy by drawing more visitors and businesses. He said the group did not want alcohol sold at any other locations, such as grocery stores, or to allow the creation of liquor stores. The latter don't operate in Arkadelphia because the city is dry, as is all of Clark County. Forty-two of the [state's] 75 counties are dry, meaning alcohol sales are prohibited, and most of the 33 wet counties have restrictions of some sort -- either "dry pockets" or areas where only beer and-or wine can be sold.
