Where I live: I live in Colony West, a Little Rock neighborhood with quiet streets good for walking, friendly neighbors, and Ouachita Mountain shortleaf pines and post oaks!

Occupation: State Forester, Arkansas Forestry Commission

My favorite space is: My favorite space is our pass-through/bar between our kitchen and den.

Why? My wife, Louise, and I moved to this home about 12 years ago and at the time, the large kitchen and den were separated by a wall and regular door. We opened up both spaces by creating the pass-through, knocking out about half the wall, widening the doorway, and placing an oak flooring-topped bar in the wall. We added "cool" lights above and behind the pass-through and chose stools to place on both sides. The pass-through is the heart and hub of our home. It's where Louise and I meet and greet and eat ... just ourselves or with friends and family. Once I counted 14 friends surrounding the bar, visiting with the cooks and watching a game in the den. It is the connection for entertaining and relaxing. It's perfect! Surrounded by family and friends and lots of wood ... what more could a forester want?

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: I love our space just as it is. (Louise says it needs a new coat of paint!)
