Police: Costumed actors mistaken for gunmen at ASU

UPDATE 4 P.M.

Costumed actors were mistaken for gunmen, causing a campus lockdown at Arkansas State University for nearly an hour Sunday, according to a university news release.

University police have identified and questioned the students who said they were filming a video project near the union, officials said.

Police said they will continue to monitor the campus during the evening as a precautionary measure.

UPDATE 2:45 P.M.

Authorities lifted the lockdown at Arkansas State University less than an hour after police received reports of armed men on campus around 2 p.m. Sunday, university officials said on Twitter.

Police gave the all clear around 2:45 p.m. and said normal operations could resume.

Police are continuing to investigate and are reviewing security footage of the area. The reported subjects were never located, police said.

The lockdown was the second at the school in the past three months. A man with a shotgun drove onto campus Dec. 10, but the incident ended peacefully when he eventually surrendered.
