ASU women tie record with 14-0 start

The ASU women tied a school record with their 14th consecutive victory in a 78-64 trouncing Saturday at Fant-Ewing Coliseum in Monroe, La.

Their 20-3 record ensures the Red Wolves (14-0 Sun Belt) their best in school history.

“It was never our goal to be 20-3 and win 14 straight,” Arkansas State Coach Brian Boyer said. “Our goal is to win the conference tournament and get to the NCAA Tournament, but when you look back when this all said and done this is a pretty cool deal. When you look back at the history of women’s basketball at Arkansas State, no other team could do this and this is something this team should be proud of.”

Khadija Brown-Haywood tied a career-high with 29 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Red Wolves. The senior had eight points in the game’s first three minutes and finished the half with 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting.

Jessica Flanery had 14 points for ASU, including four three-pointers, while Aundrea Gamble added 12 points and 6 assists. Lauren Bradshaw had 11 points and six rebounds in her first start for the Red Wolves.

ASU shot 55.8 percent (29 of 52) from the field and also made 12 of 15 (80 percent) at the free-throw line.

The Red Wolves forced 19 Louisiana-Monroe turnovers.
