Man shot by Pine Bluff police identified

The man shot by a Pine Bluff police officer outside Pines Mall on Saturday night has been identified as Markevious White, an Arkansas State Police spokesman said.

White, who is wanted in a Pine Bluff homicide case from a few years ago, refused to surrender to police and hit one officer while attempting to flee in his vehicle, spokesman Bill Sadler said.

He said police then opened fire at the vehicle that continued across Harding Avenue where it was found abandoned. Police found White a short time later and took him to a hospital for treatment. His condition had not been released as of 4 p.m. Sunday.

Police said he should be released from the hospital and booked into jail sometime this week.
