Police did not identify the officers involved or the people who were shot. They deferred questions to the Arkansas State Police, which the department said was investigating the shooting.

When reached after 10 p.m. Saturday, state police spokesman Bill Sadler said he had not been informed of the shooting.

The shooting occurred about 7 p.m. in the mall parking lot, according to officer Wayne Hall, public safety supervisor at Pines Mall, who said he heard gunfire and children screaming as he was headed to the food court.

"That's when I ran out and got the customers back inside," he told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Hall said he ushered several teenagers into the mall, and as he did so, he saw a car leaving and watched police chase it off mall property.

He said police told him they caught the car about 15 to 20 minutes later and that two people were sent to the hospital with gunshot wounds.
