Saving face with grace? Not likely

Limited-edition Starbucks flavors could be a grande hit with your Valentine.
Limited-edition Starbucks flavors could be a grande hit with your Valentine.

Before you get too comfortable on this lazy Sunday, there's something you should know.

It's Feb. 14! It's Valentine's Day! Yes, today! You waited until the last minute and now you're about to blow it big time! That is, if you didn't already blow it yesterday. After all, many posh places did their dressy-uppy dinners last night.

Luckily for you, we're going to help you salvage this day with your sweetheart.

Breakfast in bed: Surprise her with a Spicy Chicken Biscuit, a Chicken Breakfast Biscuit or some Chick-n-Minis from Chick-fil-A.

No, wait, they're closed. It is Sunday, after all.

Crafty creations: There's no better way to dazzle your darling than with a homemade do-it-yourself demonstration of your affection.

But there is a better day. Hobby Lobby is closed on Sundays too.

Toast with the most: A fine bottle of bubbly can make for a mushy mood setter. If you bought it yesterday.

Remember, it's Sunday, and it's impossible to buy wine (save for a long drive to Arkansas wine country or across the state line).

Church: Romantic? Probably not. But at least it's guaranteed to be open.

And depending on your denomination, there might be wine.

Flowers: A beautiful bouquet is always appreciated.

Correction: A beautiful bouquet is always appreciated during the work week, when one's flowers can be flaunted in front of one's co-workers. Ideally, these would have been delivered Friday. You could wait until tomorrow to deliver them, but delay Valentine's festivities and you might not be around tomorrow, ahem.

Movie date: Let's look at some of the movies out this week: the anti-hero Deadpool and the Michael Moore documentary Where to Invade Next.

Take your sweetie to one of these today and you'll probably need to see another movie that's out this week: How to Be Single.

Candy: What woman wouldn't love some decadent truffles, juicy chocolate-covered strawberries or even cutesy conversation hearts (modern messages: "Text Me," "Tweet Me," "BFF") for Valentine's Day?

The woman who has given up sweets for Lent, which began Wednesday -- that's who, Cupid!

Roach: This is not a legal-in-Colorado thing. It's an offered in-the-Bronx thing. For a $10 donation to bronxzoo.com/roach, the Bronx Zoo will name a Madagascar hissing cockroach -- and provide a digital certificate -- in honor of your love.

It's sure to make your love bug totally bug out.

Starbucks: If your cutie craves coffee, Starbucks has three new offerings available only through today: The Molten Chocolate Latte, Molten Chocolate Frappuccino and Molten Hot Chocolate. While there are subtle differences, they feature not only chocolate chips but mocha sauce and espresso-infused whipped cream, and therefore caffeine overload.

To make this Valentine's treat complete, get the recipient one more thing: an Ambien prescription, and make it a Venti.

Dinner date: Waffle House has got you covered -- and smothered, chunked, diced, peppered, capped and topped -- this Valentine's Day (at least at participating locations, and we know of three: Bryant, Malvern and Hot Springs; call for specifics). An employee at the 105 Commerce St., Bryant, restaurant told us that from 5 to 9 p.m. today they'll be offering fancy T-bone steak dinners with baked potato, corn, salad, dessert and drinks for two served on actual tablecloths for $28.95.

There will also be a photo booth so you'll always remember this special day. As if a candlelit dinner at Waffle House would be possible to forget.
