The rock outdoor fireplace, while decorative and functional, was lighted for looks when Eric McDaniel and Dr. Chad Rodgers hosted their annual In-Between party the night of Dec. 26. Temperatures hovering in the 70s enticed the hosts and several guests to wear summer shorts in and around their Palm Street home -- a rarity for this time of year in Arkansas.
The pair have been hosting the party at least 10 years with McDaniel's mother and next-door neighbor, Bonnie Kelley. Back then, they were neighbors in condos at Cambridge Place.
"I invited some of my friends and he invited some of his friends, and it just grew from there," Kelley said. To make the party as effortless as possible, guests served themselves from ice chests full of beer and a self-serve bar. Snacks included boxes of pizza that covered the couple's dining room table.
Guests mingled inside and out -- mostly outside to enjoy the unseasonably warm weather. Missing in action: McDaniel and Rodgers' pair of Labrador retrievers, Malak and Sophie, who were sequestered at Kelley's home.
Special guests included McDaniel's daughter, Lauren McDaniel, and her mate, Jill, who recently blessed Eric with granddaughter Adalyn.
